Back in September of 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Cross Lanes Bible Church, the sponsoring church of Cross Lanes Christian School, took the opportunity to evaluate and reorganize the governing board of the school. From September 2020 until December 2022, the school was under the oversight of the CLBC Deacon Board. During that time, the Deacon Board developed a standardized set of by-laws for the School Board. During the months of laborious meetings, responsibilities were clarified in conjunction with the constitution of CLBC. Through the collaboration of Pastors, deacons, educators and advisors, it culminated in the creation of a new CLCS school board.Â
The new school board had their first meeting on December 14, 2022. Each new Board member received a notebook containing the by-laws, the Student-Parent Handbook, Faculty Handbook, Accreditation documents, and a Sustainability plan. The initial meeting consisted of an orientation and review of pertinent goals and objectives for the Board. The Board is comprised of 5 individuals: Dr. Dave Buckley, Mr. Eddie Riley, school Administrator; Mr. Mark Clark, chairman, Mr. Jeremy Willis, secretary, and Dr. Sue Forsbrey. Financial advisor, Pastor Mark Boyd is also required to attend.Â
Some of the new ideas for the Board include regular reports during meetings from specific individuals involved in the various aspects of the school (Athletic Director, Director of Development, Supervisors, Warrior Foundation, Parent Teacher Fellowship, etc.) to provide an overall perspective and perception of CLCS. The Board plans to be more visible and available to both faculty and families.Â
Dr. Sue Forsbrey has broken through the gender ceiling, being the first woman to be chosen to serve on the School Board in the history of the school. Sue was born and raised in NJ. She was saved in Sunday School at the age of 13 and baptized later that year. She earned her BS in Nursing from Cornell University in NY. She then pursued and completed a MS in Nursing from Clemson University, Clemson, SC. Sue successfully completed her doctorate in Higher Educational Administration from WVU.Â
Her experience includes serving as a nurse in hospitals in NJ. She has been a nursing instructor at LaGrange College in Georgia and the University of Charleston for 25 years. Most recently she has been an administrator at West Virginia State College and Bridge Valley Community Technical College for over 6 years. Overall, Dr. Forsbrey has been involved in educational administration for over 30 years. Her valuable experience to the CLCS school board is immeasurable.Â
Sue has been an active member of Cross Lanes Bible Church since 1979. Her son Kevin is a 1990 CLCS graduate. Her grandson, Alex (class of 2018) and granddaughter Hannah (class of 2020) are also alumni of CLCS.
Mr. Pete Roth grew up in Buckhannon, WV. He studied communications at Concord University. He began his broadcasting carrier in 1990, working at radio stations throughout WV. In 2002, he joined Bristol Broadcasting as an on-air talent and program director. He is very active within the community, often involved with large public events throughout the area. In addition to his professional obligations, he is a local scoutmaster who has volunteered working with youth for over 20 years. Furthermore, he is an Executive Board member of the Buckskin Council overseeing programs and assets of the BSA statewide.
In 2007, both Pete and his wife, Michelle, became members of Cross Lanes Bible Church as their family grew. His wife is the grounds supervisor for the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery. They now have two boys who have both attended CLCS. The oldest is a graduate with the youngest to follow soon. Both Pete and Michelle are Christians. He was baptized at an early age; however, shortly after coming to CLBC he fell to his knees, realizing he hadn’t truly surrendered his life to the Lord. Since that day he has trusted in the Lord to guide and direct him wherever needed.
Mr. Mark Clark is a 1981 graduate of CLCS, the second graduating class. He was saved in 1967, at the age of 5. Mark began attending Cross Lanes Bible Church in 1969. He started Cross Lanes Christian School in 1973, the first year of the school’s existence. Mark currently serves the church as a deacon and is the Chairman of the School Board. Mark earned his BS in Statistical Mathematics from Cedarville College and West Virginia State in 1989. He also holds certification in Federal Rules in Bankruptcy Procedures (FRBP).
Mark and his wife Anna married in 2005. Mark is the property safety manager for Burdette Reality Inc. His wife Anna is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) with Dixon, Hughes, Goodman, LLP. Cheryl is from Elmira, NY, attended Bob Jones University, worked as first grade aid at CLCS for 10 years, and became Director of Bright Beginnings Preschool in 2009. They’ve been at Cross Lanes Bible Church for 45+ years.Â
Mark and Cheryl have two daughters, Marie (CLCS grad 2010) and Amy (CLCS grad 2013), and two grandchildren (plus one on the way). Mark is a native of Cross Lanes. He received Christ at the age of 8 during family devotions. He started piano lessons at age 7 and by age 13 was playing publicly for church, weddings, and funerals. Since then the Lord has privileged me to become an accomplished church pianist and organist.Â
After graduation from high school, Mark attended Bible College for two years then returned to Morris Harvey College, while working in accounting for Charleston National Bank in 1979. He continued taking accounting courses at WV State then transferred to University of Charleston where he graduated in 1986 with a double major in Finance and Accounting.  In 1990, he successfully completed the rigorous CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam. In 2005, he came on staff at Cross Lanes Bible Church and has worked in all phases of ministry ever since. Currently, he serves as Treasurer, with a primary focus being financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting, for Cross Lanes Christian School. Pastor Mark’s confession is Christ, and all things biblical; his passion is piano, and all things musical; and his profession is accounting, and all things financial.
