September 6, 2020

Dear CLCS families,

Have you ever planned for something with great anticipation and at the last minute everything changed? That’s the way the faculty and staff feel at CLCS. It feels like we have been preparing to get back to school forever. The Bible says “be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Phil. 4:6). Let us work together to follow what the Scriptures admonish us to do: not be anxious (worrisome), be thankful, and bring to God our requests.

So for at least the first week, here is the foundational information that you will need.

Tuesday, September 8, 2020 will be a distribution of materials day.

Virtual learning will begin on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2020. Please refer to your child’s respective virtual schedule for proper log in times. Elementary virtual schedules will be included in the packets of materials that you will receive on Tuesday. Middle and High School virtual schedules are available on the school’s website.

We will be using G-suite (Google Suite: Google docs, Google Drive, Google Meets, Google classroom) for our virtual learning platform. This program is a simple user-friendly educational tool that will provide the necessary training from our classes to your home. Each CLCS student has a specific user name and password that will access their respective classes.  As mentioned in a video, we will be live-streaming classes, recording those classes, providing a link to view those classes, and transitioning information via Google docs. In addition, Google Suite will sync with Sycamore, our school management system.

Please adhere to the following guidelines for Tuesday, September 8, 2020:

  • You may come by the school and pick up your child’s materials between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • We would like to ask that no more than 6 students/parents be in the building at one time.
  • Please wear a mask and practice social distancing
  • Unless requested by a teacher to meet, there should not be any loitering in the hallways.
  • On the school’s website are virtual class schedules for both the Middle School and High School.

Finally, I would ask that you bear with us as we move forward in this new venture. Much of the way of learning that we are about to embark on is new to most of us. The faculty and staff have worked very hard the past month, stretching themselves to learn a new way of teaching. It has not been easy. We moved from the “deer in the headlights” look the first week of August to a new level of confidence and excitement this past week. We are ready. We will make mistakes and need to make many adjustments.

We will do our very best, with God’s help and wisdom, to serve each of you as unto the Lord. I can report to you that in my eight years of starting a school year at Cross Lanes Christian School, there has never been the camaraderie and team spirit that has been present during our In-Service. I think you will experience that from your interactions with the staff. We will attempt great things for God and accomplish great things with God.

For Christian Education,

Mr. Eddie Riley, Administrator.
