CLCS Seniors Participate in Mock Trial

A group of CLCS high school seniors had their day in court when Judge Dan Greear welcomed them into his courtroom to participate in a mock trial organized by Mrs. Sylvia. The students were assigned roles in advance to prepare for the day’s proceedings. In the case of State (White) vs. Jack Smith, Mr. Smith was accused of arson and homicide.

Johniece Sylvia and Isaiah McFarland were the prosecuting attorneys while Elijah Parsons and Collin Martin represented the defendant. Following a tough morning of introducing evidence and intense cross examination, members of the jury found that Jack Smith was not guilty of arson or homicide.

Judge Greear advised the participants on what would and would not be allowed in a real court of law and allowed them to ask questions while the jury deliberated.

Thanks to Judge Greear for presiding over the trial and for making his courtroom available. Also, thanks to Judge Greear’s team for making this experience possible.
