Eighth Graders Visit High School for Preview Day

Our eighth graders had a little variation from their usual afternoon schedule recently when they walked the short distance from the Middle School Building to the High School Building to preview life as high school freshmen. The group had a short time with each teacher in what will be their core subject classrooms.

Mrs. White made math terms exciting with a flash card game, Ms. Milam tested the groups’ editing skills with a paragraph full of errors displayed on her smart board, Ms. Lambert assured the group that history would be interesting and fun, Mrs. Clark discussed the various science class options the students will have in high school and Mr. Cumberledge (with his assistant and grandson, Lincoln Cumberledge) demonstrated a Van de Graf static electricity generator and gave the students an overview of the topics covered in their freshman physics course.

Mrs. Cumberledge, assistant principal, and Mrs. Dietz, school counselor, met with the future freshmen to explain the importance of working hard to make good grades in high school and to share with them scholarship opportunities and other helpful information.

Mr. Riley, school administrator, presented each eighth grader with a voucher to the Warrior Store to purchase an item of their choice. Just before breaking for lunch, next year’s freshman class posed for the traditional portrait in front of the High School Building—where they will grow academically and spiritually and make memories their final four years on campus.
