About Our Class

Fifth Grade Teacher

Mrs. Amy Hassie

Some field trips our class has taken:
We have been to Gritt’s Farm in the Fall with our whole elementary wing. We look forward to our week-long daily field trip to StarBase where we do many Stem Activities exploring science and technology!

Some special events in our classroom have been:
We have competition day every Thursday. We compete in a variety of areas in our classroom from math to clean lockers. Our pancakes and pajamas Christmas party was great fun! We look forward to Country Report Day where each student presents their research on the country they have chosen to study. They get to come to class in traditional dress for that country and bring a food item from that country to share with the class after everyone has given their reports. Fifth grade participates in Math Field Day.

Some of the academic skills we master are:
In math, we work hard on long division, doing all the basic functions with fractions and decimals. We review measurements and conversions and practice with simple equations. We review and build on basic grammar knowledge in parts of speech and sentence structures and exercise a variety of writing skills including poetry, research papers, and opinions. We study ancient countries in history and in science basic energy, ecosystems, solar system, water and carbon cycles to name a few of our exciting topics.

Some of the Bible truths and verses we learn are:
We do an overview of our Bible from Genesis to the life of Christ. We learn about the Creation, Obedience of Noah, faith of Abraham, forgiveness of Joseph, leadership and choice of Moses, courage of Joshua, the miracles of Jesus, and the relationship He wants each of us to have with Him. We also have been memorizing the book of James which is full of instruction on how we treat others, and how our tongues can be a fire.
